Two weeks ago I applied for an internship at the Dallas Museum of Art, and they sent me an email today saying I have an interview! I could be working at the DMA this summer!

“it’s an assault on your senses. They grab hold of you and give you a good shaking. As adults, we’re not used to it. It’s an amazing fact that all objects leap beyond their own dimension.”
No, it’s not, it’s dots.

I feel the same way about most of Damien Hirst’s artwork. He doesn’t even do any of his artwork. I realize that this is true for many artists, but it is especially true for him. Few of the concepts are actually his. The skull, “For the Love of God” was actually conceived by his roomate in college. This dot design is not original at all and I disagree with the statement “we’re not used to it”. Go to Target or flip through a magazine. I guarantee you will find the same color scheme and dot pattern. It’s artwork like this that makes me hesitant about majoring in art history. There’s so much bullshit that you have to wade through to find art of true substance, just like the quote above. Also, I doubt the people that buy his artwork actually understand or appreciate art past its monetary value.
End of rant.

I’ve seen the painting in the Kimbell before, but I have never seen the one in the Louvre. Next year, I will live in the Louvre and during my occupancy there will inevitably see it.

Queen Tamar ruled over the kingdom of Georgia in Caucasus between 1184 and her death in 1213. Her ruling years are commonly known as the “golden age” of Georgia, she is remembered as “The king of kings and queen of queens”. That says a lot, doesn’t it? She married a Russian prince in 1185, but they divorced two years later and she married a man of her own choice since her first marriage was political (and childless).
She died in 1213 and was declared a saint by the catholic church. And if you believe this fresque painting of her, she was absolutely beautiful.

Today was the first performance of Nick Cave’s “Heard”. There were about 10 horse suits with two people each in them made out of multi-colored plastic raffia. The UNT music students played what sounded like an African tribal song. I think I might go all the way to the Nasher to see it again. I can’t believe I got to work on it!
